How Project Management Standards Enhance Decision Making

The purpose of this posting is to show that project management in collaboration with six sigma principles enables effective and efficient decision making by enabling less bottlenecks in decision making. In order to accomplish this, project managers in collaboration with business analysts or alone, model processes to create systematic consensus in common scenarios.

4 Process mapping Tips

  1. Validate Steps
  2. Don’t be afraid to refine or even restart
  3. Don’t get bogged down on detail. Focus on flow and value
  4. Observe the process in collaboration with and with feedback from the team members

5 Key Ideas (Second Slide)

  1. Enhance the process flow through observation
  2. Process flows are living documents (use these with project management tools and standard project management processes and compare and contrast)
  3. Let the purpose of your project set the scope for the flow
  4. Collaborative representation across all functional areas (perform project integration and knowledge management)
  5. Utilize what you create, and refine (manage and control quality, validating scope along the way!)

These tips enhance the delivery of most six sigma projects most of the time.
