Certified Project Managers Monitor Critical Thinking of Organizations to Understand Why We Experience The Results We Do

Why we experience the result we do Sept7- CriticaL thinking

Why do our organizations experience the results that they do? View the diagram presented in SIPOC. This diagram is a six sigma tool to analyze the suppliers, inputs, processes, outputs, and customers that are affected by business activities. The values are chosen as a result of the evaluation of these diagrams. They are unique to every organization.

Understanding the why we experience the value from the SIPOC model stems from analysis of the value. The value of each item in every category can be analyzed in detail or with less scrutiny, depending on how that aspect matches with the values of the organization.

The purpose of this article is to establish why certified project managers are uniquely positioned in most organization to think through the why and evaluate the value of the outcomes as demonstrated in the SIPOC diagram.

5 reasons why project managers are uniquely positioned to critically analyze why organizations experience the results they do:

  1. We leverage tools from over 50 industries as demonstrated by the PMBOK guide
  2. We analyze the hard and soft skills of processes to understand the value that people bring to the organization
  3. We champion the use of technology in project management information system to give context to and drive outcomes for the organization
  4. Certified project management professionals create tools to evaluate performance based on interactions between this SIPOC model
  5. Certified project management professionals work cross functionally in many matrix, PMO, simple, projectized, and balanced organizations to create value context that affect the customer.

After completing a qualitative risk analysis and planning, managing, controlling quality, I have seen the fishbone diagram in action. Many organization struggle with matching approaches to values and creating context alignment with scrum, agile, and six sigma tools. In this diagram we can see reoccurring elements in many agile scrum organizations working with government contracts or task orders.

The common causes are illustrated in the slide and include:

  1. Overcommitment (Fear of failure)
  2. Lack of training; scrum but lack of experience
  3. Wrong tools and lack of knowledge
  4. Wrong metrics from lack of experience
  5. Lack of visibility

While there are many causes outlined in the fishbone diagram, as a certified project manager we are able to identify the pool by conducting heart- to-heart discussions with the team in an inclusive environment that focuses on the goals and achievement of project objectives. This is an unique characteristic of highly skilled and highly effective certified project managers and their projects.
